The Knight's Map

The Knight’s Map is a children’s allegory by Dr. R.C. Sproul that uses the story of a knight’s perilous journey to teach young readers about the reliability and authority of the Bible and its role in leading us to Jesus Christ.

Framed as a grandfather’s tale told during family devotions, the story follows Sir Charles, a knight who receives a map from the Great King and sets out to find the Pearl of Great Price. Along the way, he encounters characters who urge him to abandon or distrust the map, each representing familiar challenges to biblical authority—skepticism, idolatry, and compromise. A mysterious Lamp Maker helps the knight read the map, and ultimately Sir Charles discovers that the Pearl of Great Price is not an object but the King’s own son.

Sproul draws on Jesus’ parables in Matthew 7:13–14, 13:45–46, and 24:35 to build the story’s allegorical framework. The map represents the Bible, the Great King represents God, and the Prince represents Christ. Full-color illustrations by Richard Lawnes bring the narrative to life, and discussion questions with Scripture references at the end of the book help parents guide children into the deeper meaning of the allegory.
