October Tabletalk 2025
The October 2025 issue of Tabletalk will explore the theme of the bondage of the will. In 2025, we mark the five-hundredth anniversary of The Bondage of the Will by Martin Luther, one of the most important works of the Protestant Reformation. Luther wrote this book to answer the work On Free Will by Desiderius Erasmus, but the debate between these two men really just continued a debate that had been going on for centuries regarding the nature of free will, the effects of sin on the human will, the necessity and efficacy of God’s saving grace, and more. This debate continues today as various Christian theological traditions have differed on what it means for human beings to make free choices and how the fall has affected our freedom to choose. This issue of Tabletalk will consider this important topic, turning to Scripture to help readers understand what human freedom actually looks like.
